The Osprey Nests at Fort Belvoir
~1 min read Out at the archery range at Fort Belvoir they've put up a bunch of nest poles.
The idea is that the local Osprey will nest and have babies. And it works! Each spring, there are a bunch of babies and it's always fun to watch them go through the phases of baby, fledgling, then juvenile. These are just some of the photos. It's either too cold or too warm with biting flies. So, I go out and take a few quick shots while Micky hunts groundhogs and then run back to the car.
This photo was taken when I first got to the area, so you can see, I didn't have much light left to shoot the Osprey. Poor Planning... Even with the low light levels, I got some fun shots and some practice at shooting these guys. They move so quickly and smoothly that it is hard to get a nice steady shot. Practice, Practice, Practice! After a few attempts to sort out how to capture these guys clearly, I had a great day and some great shots! First day with a 50-500mm lens. Thanks John Chandler for letting me try this out. It's a big, heavy lens and I'm going to need some more practice.
